project manager greetings

Greetings, Extraordinaries!

Healthy oceans and seas are essential to our existence. They cover 70 percent of our planet and we rely on them for food, energy and water. The sea accounts for more than two thirds of Indonesia’s territory or 6,4 million square kilometers, giving it one of the largest national maritime areas in the world. Undoubtedly, Indonesia’s seas offer high potential for sustainable economic activity and environmental protection. Yet, we have managed to do tremendous damage to the precious resources.

We may consider The 2022 BNEC Social Event as a platform for everyone, especially teenagers, to contribute to society by spreading awareness and helping people so they can start to responsibly manage and protect all marine life around the world, especially our home, Indonesia, through competitions, campaigns, charities, and challenges.

For this year’s Social Event, we would like to encourage Indonesian Youths to participate in saving the ocean and decreasing the habit of littering by enriching their knowledge about marine and water pollution. We hope that The 2022 BNEC Social Event will bring big impact on the cleanliness of the ocean dan raise youths’ awareness to always be mindful of their waste .

about our theme

The Big Blue & You

Together, through this event we want to share awareness with giving education, help, and support for our Big Blue Ocean. The theme “The Big Blue & You” is encouraging people to be aware and active towards making a greater action in saving the ocean. “The Big Blue” represents our ocean, a very large expanse of blue sea, covering almost 70% of our planet. And “You” represents all of us humans, and water is 60% part of ourselves, so together through this social event we will help the ocean to help ourselves.

Indonesia ranks 137 out of 221 countries in the Ocean Health Index (2021) with a score of 65, which is still below the global average. The UN has called marine plastic pollution “a slow-motion catastrophe”, and a recent study found Indonesia to be the second largest contributor to it after China. The coasts of Indonesia are home to many densely populated communities. It should be emphasized that a healthy ocean is the key to a sustainable ocean economy. Ocean pollution does not only affect marine life and their environment, it also affects mankind. It’s time to use this collective power to influence the decisions of today. Let’s spread awareness about keeping the ocean or places near a body of water in Indonesia clean and healthy
